His appointment was welcomed by Western NSW Local Health District chief executive Scott McLachlan who said he brought "20 years of experience in corporate governance to the board".
"Our Local Health District Board has always been very active and invested in the services we provide in all the communities we serve," Mr McLachlan said.

Mr Irvine takes over from Scott Griffiths who has served in the position of Board Chair since 2017.
Mr McLachlan said he was grateful for Mr Griffith's leadership and commitment to the role of chairperson.
Mr Irvine's appointment as board chair is for a period of two years.
