The brand new program, Regional Sessions, was held in Dubbo on Tuesday by the Australasian Performing Right Association and Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (APRA AMCOS) in partnership with Create NSW and Music NSW.
Sydney-based singer songwriter Ilan Kidron said Regional Sessions is an 'invaluable' program.
"This is a great initiative. It's a communal one as well which is something I feel very strongly about," he said.
"Being able to expand into regional areas and give opportunities to people to listen and learn, especially to people who are hungry for meaning and hungry for method - It's something I didn't have.
"Songwriting is a very peculiar set of skills. There's one method that is very much like a fire where it's very chaotic, and there are others that are more an organised way of approaching it.
"I go to schools a lot and we often get the English department involved because we find it's such a different skill-melody writing and lyric writing.
"Finding melody has nothing to do with finding lyrics, really, then putting them together is amazing.
"There's not one single method either, I don't have one method when I'm writing on my. Sometimes I can start with a beat and layer on top of that."
Event organiser Kristen Wehlow said it was an opportunity for songwriters and musicians in Dubbo to meet and network and get inspired by people who live in their region.
The day comprised of panels run by the mentors followed by workshops at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.
"It's great to be here and meet all of the songwriters and musicians we thought existed here," Miss Wehlow said.
