The competition held between Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo high schools was first held in 1923.

Dubbo College held its annual Astley Cup assembly on Monday morning and presented teams with their uniforms ahead of the competition.

COVID-19 forced the event to be abandoned last year and Dubbo College Senior Campus school captain Imogen Pettit feels all the students are excited to witness the event for the first time.

"Everyone is a bit excited because they make sure exams are over before everything happens so everyone can focus just on the Astley Cup," she said.

Along with the eight sport competitions, there is the Mulvey Cup debating competition which will be held at the host school.

The Mulvey Cup side is a four-person competition and the Dubbo side consists of Liam Boon, Sydney Davis, Henrietta Bourke and Jackson Collins. They compete against the same schools as the Astley Cup.

The debating will be held at the hosting school on the first morning of Astley Cup play.

Dubbo has not won the Mulvey Cup debating since 2009, while the Astley Cup has not been won by the College since 2011.

Ms Pettit feels the 'drought' in the competition could have ended last year but is confident about the Dubbo College's chances this year.

"Considering there was a pretty big drought, we thought we were a good chance of winning it last year but ever since then COVID and everything de-railed the plan," she said.

"I think we have a pretty good chance of winning it this year."

The competition begins later this week when Bathurst High hosts Orange High.
