In the 24 hours to 9am on Thursday morning the city had officially received 18.6 millimetres (mm) of rain which fell steadily overnight.
Rain was still falling after 9am on Thursday with the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecasting the chance of a thunderstorm in the evening.

The BoM's seven-day forecast for Dubbo as of Thursday morning suggested residents might hear rain on the roof on Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
It predicted a 40 per cent chance of up to 1mm of rain falling on Friday, a 60 per cent chance of up to 8mm on Tuesday and a 70 per cent chance of up to 20mm on Wednesday.
Average rainfall at Dubbo during the month of June is 48.3mm.
Rain pelted down in February and March after January failed by 2mm to achieve average rainfall for the month of 56mm.
The automatic weather station at Dubbo City Regional Airport collected 114.4mm in February and 187.2mm in March.
Average rainfall for February and March is 45.1mm and 68.5mm, respectively.
April brought back memories of drought with total rainfall of 1.8mm well below the monthly average of 30.2mm.
Twenty-eight of the 30 days of April were dry.
May delivered 21mm across four days including 16.2mm in the 24 hours to 9am May 4.
Average rainfall at Dubbo during May is 38.1mm.
