The fountain was erected in 1909 after it was donated by the partners of G E Wise & Co. In 2000 it underwent restoration work, but since that time it has significantly weathered.
New work is now needed to preserve the fountain's structural integrity and appearance.
O'Sullivan Conservation, the company that recently completed the work on the Winged Victory Cenotaph, has been hired by Dubbo Regional Council to complete the restoration.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"The fountain has definitely seen better days and requires a specialist team to protect the integrity of such a unique structure. It is great to have the team from O'Sullivan Conservation back on site to complete the necessary work," council's director of livability Skye Price said.
The stage one work to the fountain will include repairs to the concrete and mortar, pond water proofing, investigations into the internal plumbing and hydraulics as well as reinstalling the cherub that previously sat on top of the fountain.
Stage one of the work is expected to be completed by mid-June.
