Played under lights at No. 1 Oval, Macquarie United bounced back from a humbling 8-5 loss a week prior to score a second win of the Western Premier League season.
Macquarie coach Paul Crain was impressed with his side's performance but knows there is room for improvement.
"To get three points was great but in saying that we still have a lot to work on." he said.
"The pleasing thing for me was that we created a lot of opportunities and the disappointing thing is we didn't convert a lot of them.
"We probably had six to eight shots on goal that should've went in the back of the net and Mudgee got one against us."

Sutton's goal was the highlight of the night while round one hero Will Hodges also added a goal but Crain admitted the free-kick was the biggest talking point.
"Sutto has been hitting them well, he got a nice goal at Waratahs in the same sort of situation," he said
"He takes our kicks and his consistent with them so that's why he gets them and when you get in those positions you've got to take advantage of it.
"I was very happy with the way he played and the finish."
Crain also was full of praise for the new No. 1 Oval surface and admitted he can't wait to see his side play there again this season.
The match was the first WPL fixture to be played at the venue and the first non-cricket match at the ground since its redevelopment.
"The pitch was great," Crain said.
"We like the wider pitches for the way we play, we went back to a bit of basics with our formation.
"Over the last few weeks we have been experimenting with a few formations and things but we went back to basics.
"VP1 suits us and we have a couple more games there that we are looking forward to."
Macquarie has yet to play its full strength side this season due to a number of injuries but with two wins from the first three rounds is sitting in fourth spot on the ladder.
