Burton told NRL.com after the match he was keen to lay low and just play footy after being in the public headlines.

"Yeah it's definitely good to get some game time, it's just good experience for me," Burton said.

"I don't really read into (the media attention) much, I just try and focus on my job and do what's best for the team.

"I have social media but I don't really read into it or anything, I just try and focus on my job and keep level-headed."

Burton also admitted to NRL.com he definitely hadn't expected to be putting in a longer stint in the role.

"Nah definitely not but it opened up and I'm just happy to be in the team doing my job," he said.

"It's good, it gives me a lot of confidence and I can't wait for the next few weeks and hopefully I get a crack.

"Whether I was in the [NRL] team or not I just wanted to be giving it 100% for the boys and putting my best foot forward every week.

"It's obviously a massive step up from [Canterbury] Cup. It's a lot more physical and faster. I think it's just good for my development. I'm just happy to be in the team."
