The Bureau of Meteorology's (BoM) seven-day forecast as of Thursday gives rise to hope that rain will not peter out early in February, as it did in January this year.
January 2021 delivered 54mm of rain to the city with 50mm falling in the first five days and 4mm in the last two days.
Dubbo officially went without rain for more than three weeks.
Average rainfall in the city during the month of January is 56.1mm.
February 2021 has got off to a wet start with 35.6mm falling in the first two days.
Average rainfall in Dubbo during the month of February is 42.2mm.
The BoM's seven-day forecast suggested the city might get showers and thunderstorms across three consecutive days starting on Thursday.
On Thursday there was a 50 per cent chance of a shower or two in the afternoon or evening, with a thunderstorm possibly occurring at the same time.
There was a 20 per cent chance of a shower in the afternoon or evening on Friday, perhaps accompanied by a thunderstorm.
Dubbo's best chance of rain may be on Saturday with the BoM predicting an 80 per cent chance of between 10mm and 20mm falling in the morning and the afternoon.
The BoM also reported of the possibility of a thunderstorm on Saturday.
January 2020 delivered 36mm of rain to Dubbo and February 2020 a whopping 81.1mm.
