But with each passing event it becomes that little more realistic.
And hugely talented batch of riders know it.
Haylee Fuller was the latest to show her quality on the big stage recently, having competed as a 17-year-old alongside some greats of the sport at the Festival of Cycling in Adelaide.
A national champion on the road in the under 19s format, Fuller has joined the likes of Danny Barber, Kurt and Dylan Eather, Isabelle Russell, and others from Dubbo who have put their names up in lights for all to see in recent years.

Each have said the Olympics would be the ultimate dream and Fuller knows reaching those kind of heights is realistic for the talents Dubbo contingent.
"I think it's definitely achievable with all the support and coaching we have here in Dubbo," she said.
"Hopefully we can get there.
"I really want to ride overseas in the World Tour. Of course the Olympics and Commonwealth Games are on the list, too."
Fellow teenage talent Barber said something similar after winning three gold medals in a sensational showing at the national track titles in Brisbane last December.
"Definitely the long term goal is to to that level," Barber said at the time.
"You still see (Commonwealth games gold medalist) Megan (Dunn) at the track some nights and I get to chat to her and ask her things and she tells me what it's like and gives advice so it's really good to have people like that around. It helps immensely.
"Being in the Australian team and maybe riding at Olympics in the next four years is definitely my goal."
Fuller and Barber, like so many others currently or previously involved in the Dubbo club, paid tribute to esteemed Dubbo coaches Gus Dawson and Vaughn Eather when talking about their achievements.
Dawson has mentored the likes of Commonwealth Games gold medallist Megan Dubbo and Australian representative Andrew Dawson while has helped the likes of Fuller, Barber, and the Eather become national junior champions and developed the Dubbo Cycle Club into the most successful in the country.
Local competition is now back in full swing after the Christmas and New Year's break while Dubbo riders will be targeting more success at next week's Road National Championships in Ballarat.
