Dubbo Regional Council mayor Ben Shields has sent a letter to Member for the Dubbo Dugald Saunders asking for the redevelopment of the former service station on the Talbragar and Darling Street.

It is understood the site is owned by the state government.

The letter was sent late last year, in which Cr Shields said currently the empty block of land provides no service to the community and it does not blend in with the surrounding landscape, especially when it is situated so close to the Dubbo CBD.

In a response to the Daily Liberal, Mr Saunders said he is hopeful the land may be made available for a car park to be constructed.

"I have had discussions with a number of business owners in Talbragar Street about the issue of parking and have been looking for options including the old Thrifty site next to the Dubbo Railway Station," Mr Saunders said

"At my request, Transport for NSW has been investigating the possibilities for the past couple of month."

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said they would continue to work with Dubbo Regional Council and the local member on options for the redevelopment of the site.
