Noel McNair from Red Dirt Camping in Dubbo says his business has seen an increase since last May and feels that JobKeeper payments have helped sales increase.

"The excess of cash people have had around with JobKeeper has helped people buy products and since May onwards we have seen a steady increase in sales although people could not really travel anywhere" Mr McNair said.

Mr McNair also feels that the recent rainfall around the region, which has increased the water levels in Burrendong Dam, is another reason people are travelling to the location.

"Locals from Dubbo are heading out west to Bourke and such camping or going to Burrendong Dam just outside of Wellington around Christmas and New Years."

"Some people from out of town are coming to see the attractions Dubbo has like the Zoo (Taronga Western Plains Zoo) and the Old Dubbo Gaol."

Families are the main customers purchasing camping equipment but Mr McNair admits that there is a 'broad demographic' of customers.

"Mainly families are looking to buy equipment, we get the odd couple who have never camped in their lives who come in to buy stuff but we have had customers ranging from early 20s all the way through until retiree's."
