The station will support SES's O3b mPOWER non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) constellation.
The project, which is part of an ongoing partnership between remote communication provider Pivotel and global content and connectivity solutions provider SES, will provide high-performance and low-latency connectivity services country-wide, and is said to greatly benefit the country's regional areas.
SES director John Turnbull said the terabit-level constellation will deliver multiple gigabits-per-second beams of data services to its customers, providing "fibre-like connectivity" which will enable more bandwidth and improved flexibility to remote and underserved regions.
"With more people working from home due to COVID-19 the need for better connectivity has proven to be greater than ever," he said.
Mr Turnbull said the service will be particularly beneficial to regional schools and community and health centres, as well as emergency and disaster first responders by providing them with vital connectivity.
"This will create an incredible number of new opportunities for regional and remote communications across the country and Pacific region," he said.
The service is said to become available upon the launch of the new station which has been said for the middle of 2021.
Pivotel CEO Peter Bolger said they are proud to be working with SES in providing the MEO constellation which will deliver desperately needed backhaul connectivity upon its launch, and with the right support, has the power to deliver city-like data services across regional Australia which is capable of which has the potential, with the right support, to deliver city-like data service across regional Australia
Mr Turnbull said the construction of the new station will also provide job opportunities within the community, which is just another added benefit.
The agreement between Pivotel and SES to construct the new satellite station was officially announced on Monday at the Teleport in Dubbo with Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Ben Shields, Pivotel CEO Peter Bolger, SES director John Turnbull and Member for Parkes Mark Coulton in attendance.
