The Newcastle Fringe Festival has decided to expand the event to Dubbo. It will take place in May 2021 for three days, from Thursday May 6 until Saturday, May 8.
A fringe festival is a series of performances that covers a range of performance art genres. It's generally open access, which means the selection of performances is not curated but open to anyone who applies.
Newcastle and Dubbo Fringe Festivals director and chair Phil Aughey hopes the event will attract more visitors to the region.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"Newcastle Fringe are excited to establish a regional festival in Dubbo to enhance the vibrancy of the NSW fringe movement and to create a localised touring circuit for artists," Mr Aughey said.
"The aim is to provide artists with more opportunity to develop their practice and to build audiences.
"Plus, the greater Dubbo region gets to enjoy more edgy, diverse, grassroots and fun performance that will attract more visitors to the central west."
The fringe festival has received $7500 from Dubbo Regional Council to help make the event a reality. The funding came from the Destination Events Fund which is available for events that deliver significant economic and reputation benefits.
Dubbo Fringe is now calling for artist applications in any genre of performance or visual art, including but not limited to theatre, music, cabaret, dance, comedy, circus, spoken word and children's theatre.
