Destination NSW has launched a new initiative that hopes to drive domestic visitation following the decline of travel due to bushfires and COVID-19. There are 28 itineraries which not only includes places like Dubbo, but farther out west.
ARIA-winner Amy Shark is among the faces of the campaign. She visited places like Wilcannia and Walgett on the Darling River Run.
As the name suggests, the 930 kilometre road trip follows the Darling River. It includes suggestions like taking a dip in Walgett's thermal artesian bore baths, seeing the fish traps in Brewarrina and going paddle-boating in Bourke.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"It's been such an incredible and rewarding experience to be part of The Long Road. Taking the time to meet the locals, hear their stories and see where they call home, has been amazing," Ms Shark said.
"I never thought I would ever visit the Darling River Run, Broken Hill and the surrounding areas and now I can't wait to come back."
The artists will be featured in The Long Road web series, hosted by Ash London.
The campaign also includes interactive road trip itineraries on the Visit NSW website.
Dubbo is featured in a number of the road trip itineraries, with suggestions such as shopping at the Farmers Markets, visiting Taronga Western Plains Zoo and wandering the historic streets.
NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said while accommodation across the state has been fully booked in recent months, the focus now was on the medium-term recovery and encouraging people to book a holiday for 2021.
