Transversing local West traffic along Obley Rd (via traffic lights across the Newel Highway) and crossing Macquarie River using the old railway bridge infrastructure. However the recent influx of people visiting the zoo (especially in school holiday periods) has seen traffic backed up both ways along Obley Rd, at the Zoo entry!
A bridge crossing at Sandy Beach is abhorrent to me. It robs both locals & visitors of the serene River walk, one of Dubbo's gems, in my opinion!
This applies equally to a bridge at the lower end of Tamworth Street. If we could only have that ring road by-pass that most people want, (not the vocal minority, Dugald Saunders) could it then be possible to bring West Dubbo traffic off this by-pass to cross the river somewhere between Tamworth St Walking Bridge and the Eastern side of South Dubbo Weir.
This would link up with the lower end of Huckel St and then onto Macquarie St to head north towards the main St or down Hennessy Rd towards the East.
Some may say "pie in the sky" but we locals must have a say on what we want NOT what the RMS and State and Federal governments dictate.
