A 25-year-old man will re-appear in court after allegedly knocking unconscious an off-duty police officer at the weekend.

About 11.50pm on Saturday a 31-year-old off duty police officer stopped to speak with two people on Macquarie Street.
The officer lost consciousness after a 25-year-old man allegedly punched him to the right side of the head, knocking him to the concrete footpath.

Officers from the Orana Mid-Western Police District were alerted and the man was arrested a short time later.
The officer, who is attached to a Western Region command, was taken to Dubbo Base Hospital where he was treated for concussion before being released several hours later.
He was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was refused bail and appeared in Dubbo Bail Court on Sunday where he was again refused bail to appear in the same court on Monday.
