Formals will now be able to be held from November 12, after the HSC exams are completed, and the events may even be subject to lesser restrictions than weddings, with dancing still in the realm of possibility.
Dubbo College Senior Campus year 12 students, school captain Lucy Roberts and Ashlyn Jensen are among those who are overjoyed by the news.
Both girls had already brought their dresses prior to the announcement of the ban and were concerned they wouldn't get the chance to wear them out.
"Everyone was freaking out when it was first announced (the ban)," Miss Roberts said.
"It's very exciting now we're allowed to have it. It's a great way to end our schooling lives and celebrate with our friends. I think it would have been a bit hard if we didn't get that."
But the event won't come without conditions, one of being a change in the location its held.
"It went from being held at the theatre where it's normally held to now being held at school," Miss Roberts said.
Miss Jensen said it's good to be able to have that one last 'hoorah'.
"It's really good that we get to do our last send off, like our last hoorah and just become adults after finishing 13 years of schooling and celebrate our final moments together as a school," Miss Jensen said.
Schools will be required to follow COVID-19 safe guidelines set to be released by the NSW Government.
