And on Wednesday, August 26 they celebrated their 53^rd wedding anniversary.

While not being able to celebrate too big this year because of Covid-19, Rex and Heather were able to enjoy a special lunch together at Parkes Coffee Pot.

The couple were married in the Parkes Presbyterian Church on the corner of Gap Street and Hill Street in 1967.

Their courtship and union all those years ago is a sweet and interesting tale.

Heather is from Bogan Gate, growing up on the family farm, and Rex was born in Adelaide.

Heather worked in the office of her uncle Roy Lees' garage business when she met Rex.

"I was in the army and I was sent to the Bogan Gate Army Camp," Rex said.

Rex was the man whose job it was to bring in all the army vehicles to the garage for repairs or a service.

Heather and Rex were only acquaintances until Rex needed a favour.

Rex was to be the best man at his twin brother Ron's wedding in Melbourne, which would require his presence on the dance floor during the bridal waltz.

He approached Heather and asked her if she could teach him to dance. And as they say, the rest is history.

Rex and Heather have a son and daughter, and one grandchild who is eight years old and lives in England.
