Injury may have kept Rhys Osborne on the sidelines on Saturday but the Macquarie United captain was still a happy man as he watched his side take another huge step towards the Western Premier League minor premiership.

Macquarie scored a 4-1 win over Lithgow at Hans Claven and that, combined with the Dubbo Bulls' shock loss to Parkes, means the sky blues are now seven points clear at the top with three rounds remaining.
Securing that crown is now the goal for the Paul Crain-coached side and it could be achieved as soon as Thursday night in a midweek top-of-the-table clash with the Bulls.
"At the start of the season we set the goal to make finals and once we were looking like we'd achieved that we set a new one with the squad and it was top two and obviously now the new goal is the minor premiership," Osborne said.
"Lithgow could still get catch us but it's just taking it step by step. Taking it each game is an old cliche but it is what it is."
The win was another pleasing one for Macquarie, not only because Lithgow is one of only two sides to have beaten the Dubbo outfit this season, but also because the goals were shared around.
While the league's top-scorer Jesse Spang has been leading the way this season, Macquarie has prided itself on its build-up play and various attacking threats and that was clear to see on Saturday.
Glen Schein, Justin Sutton, and Justin Pickering all scored and there was also an own goal while Logan Inwood scored a beauty of a free-kick in one of only a few bright moments for Lithgow.
"There's been a lot said about Jesse Spang but it was good to see others getting on the scoresheet," Osborne said.
"It's proof we're not a one man team or rely on one single player."
Outside the goal-scorers, Will Grant was a standout for the victors.
At one point earlier in the year Grant was preparing to be playing and attending college in America but COVID put an end to those hopes and he's quickly been finding his feet with Macquarie again.
"The last few games he's really shown the quality he has," Osborne said.
"On the weekend he was outstanding. His pressing in defence and forward runs and his link up play."
And while top spot might almost be assured, a derby meeting with the Bulls on Thursday night means there's no chance intensity will drop.
"Bulls are a big local rival and any game against them is huge and you want to win regardless of where the two teams are," Osborne added.
"That's the mentality we take into every game."
There's a possibility the skipper could be recovered from his calf injury and line up in that game but he's more likely to return in the final round fixture against Panorama FC.
