Given the COVID-affected nature of the season, the shortened 2020 competition won't feature a full finals series and the top two after the 10 rounds go straight through to the grand final.
The race for those spots is set to go right to the wire with Mudgee, Narromine, and Parkes all battling for decider spots.
Narromine produced the kind of performance many had been waiting for on Saturday, handing the Mudgee Wombats their first loss of the season.
That resulted in the Gorillas' cutting the Wombats' lead at the top to just two points.
The Parkes Boars are only another two points behind Narromine in third after a win over the visiting Dubbo Rhinos on Saturday.
The Boars ran out 31-15 winners at Pioneer Oval in what was a welcome return to the winners' circle after being beaten by Mudgee on the siren a week earlier.
For the Rhinos, the focus now is purely on avoiding the wooden spoon.
The Dubbo side has only one win to its name this season and that wasn't one earned on the field after CSU forfeit their match a week ago.
The Rhinos are four points behind the Bathurst side at the foot of the ladder and outside the forfeit haven't scored a win since the 2018 season.
A huge test against Narromine awaits next weekend while Parkes meets CSU and Mudgee has the bye.
