The typical NSW Cancer Council stall will not be held this year, but Jason Dearmer will be holding his own fundraiser.
"NSW Cancer Council has elected not to do any physical stalls due to concerns over COVID-19 and a lot of people who volunteer at the stalls, they may be undergoing cancer treatment or have had cancer so they're high risk for COVID-19," Mr Dearmer said.
"Instead, they're doing virtual, online donations where you can buy a daffodil online or you can hold a yellow fundraiser, which is what I've elected to do at CSC."
The 360 bunches of daffodils available on the day have been sourced from Hot Poppyz Florist. There will also be sugar cookies with a daffodil symbol on them from Food at Yours.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"In previous years I've manned Daffodil Day stalls throughout Dubbo as a NSW Cancer Council volunteer. Since they're not doing any stalls this year I wanted to make sure daffodils were available," Mr Dearmer said.
He said the 360 bunches was an increase in the number of daffodils for sale last year because he wanted to make sure there was enough for everyone.
But the volunteer is still hoping to sell out and raise $3500 for the NSW Cancer Council.
"The funds raised from the sale of daffodils goes to cancer research for all cancers through NSW Cancer Council as well as local service provided here in Dubbo and the Central West such as our transport to treatment car," Mr Dearmer said.
It also supports financial and legal services for people who need guidance and the 13 11 20 number for people to get access to information 24/7.
CSC owner Errin Williamson said she was excited to be able to host the fundraiser at the cafe, while ensuring it was COVID safe.
The fundraiser will start at CSC at about 7.30am. Eftpos is the preferred payment method but cash will be accepted if the correct amount is needed.
Donations to the fundraiser can be made by searching 'Really Cool Fundraising Page' at daffodilday.com.au.
In total, the Cancer Council hopes to raise $2 million this Daffodil Day.
