That's why I'm urging everyone in the Dubbo electorate to slow down during Rural Road Safety Month - and every day - to reduce the road toll.
Preliminary figures show nine people were killed or injured in crashes on Dubbo electorate roads in 2019, while 57 were killed and 362 seriously injured in the five years from 2014/15 to 2018/19.
Every one of these deaths and serious injuries has a devastating impact on families, friends and communities.
Whether you're a driver, passenger, rider or pedestrian, every decision you make on the road matters, and we all have a responsibility to make safe choices.
Don't speed, don't drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol, wear your seatbelt and don't drive while tired!

First-class cricket
Dubbo now has the ability to host first-class cricket matches!
Victoria Park's No.1 Oval was reopened last Thursday after a multi-million dollar upgrade, with an expanded playing surface, picket fencing and a new clubhouse.
The project was funded as part of an $8 million program announced in 2017, which also incorporated the construction of a new cycling facility for the city.
There is little doubt that No.1 Oval is one of the most picturesque grounds in regional NSW!
It's my hope that the improvements will encourage more people to get involved in community sport, as well as help Dubbo attract more state and national competitions - even potentially WBBL games - and boost the local economy!
No active cases
The Dubbo region has not an active case of COVID-19 for many months now, and it's up to all of us to keep it that way.
Please continue to clean your hands regularly, stay home when sick and, most importantly, take responsibility for your own physical distancing!
Remaining seated - not mingling - at indoor venues and making sure we maintain that 1.5m distance at all times will be the key to keeping these venues open!
