Shortly after 2am on Thursday emergency services responded to reports of a head-on smash at the intersection of Cobra and Gipps streets.
One vehicle was a silver Holden Commodore and the other was a utility strategically parked as a large physical barrier at the roadworks, police said.
Both drivers were taken to Dubbo Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
