The 91-start gelding is now trained by Kelly Smith at his remote Collarenebri property and heads to Dubbo Turf Club on Friday having won his past two events.
"The owners were talking about retiring him but instead they gave him to me for the picnics circuit," Smith told Racing NSW.
"They said 'see if you can do something with the old horse and maybe take him to picnic races on the dirt' - I've had him for nine starts and he still hasn't seen a dirt track."
Rasit Yetimova rode Grass Cutter to the two wins and will be in the saddle again in the ninth event at Dubbo, the Adors Party Hire Benchmark 58 Handicap (1420m).
The back-to-back wins at Warren came from wide draws and that's where he'll go from again on Friday.
And as the results, and Grass Cutter's recovery after races show, it doesn't faze the tough-as-nails galloper.
"After his last win he came home and ate right up and the next day he was bucking and playing. He has to travel a fair way to the races but doesn't seem to mind," Smith said, adding he and his wife live "in the middle of nowhere".
"My horses are used to it, in fact quite often I take them for 50km drives and they love it.
"Most of the horses I train have been given to me. I do something different with my horses each day so they're happy and are all blossoming."
Grass Cutter goes around in the ninth and final event on Friday.
The Mitch Beer-trained Jawwaal was a $2.50 favourite for the event on Thursday afternoon while the field also includes the Clint Lundholm-trained pair Dusky Damsel and Any Blinkin' Day and last start winner Twice The Value from the Wellington stables of Peter Stanley.
Racing starts 12pm on Friday.
