The Australian Airports Association (AAA) and Airlines for Australia & New Zealand (A4ANZ) are championing the industry-developed Domestic Passenger Journey Protocol as providing consistent advice for COVID-safe travel as borders reopen.

"The managed resumption of some domestic travel has already commenced safely, and this protocol will help build consumer confidence to resume flying again in greater numbers," AAA chief James Goodwin said.

As part of the Australian Aviation Recovery Coalition, airlines and airports have worked collaboratively with federal government representatives to develop nationally-consistent policies and a protocol to enable people to travel with confidence.

"These measures will be critical, not only for rebuilding traveller confidence, but as aviation plays a key role in driving Australia's economic recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic," Mr Goodwin said.

Dubbo City Regional Airport (DCRA) manager Jacki Parish said the facility was supportive of the collaboration between airports and airlines "to ensure that passenger safety is a priority through clear and consistent messaging, regardless of where you begin or end your journey".

The airport, and operator Dubbo Regional Council had been abiding by the restrictions of all levels of government during the pandemic, she said.

"DCRA supports the new COVIDSafe health guidelines... and these guidelines are incorporated in our own COVIDSafe plan, which has been in place throughout the pandemic period," she said.

"Council is constantly monitoring the restrictions, and will continue working with the AAA and A4ANZ, and other state and federal government regulatory bodies, to ensure our safety standards are in line with their guidelines."
