The Wendy Turnbull, The Lagoon trained gelding settled near the rear of the field early in the TAB Odds and Even Pace (1,730 metres) but then blasted past his rivals down the home straight.
The $16 chance finished 4.9m clear of second-placed Voodoo Lou, notching up his first win since September 18, 2019.
"He's pretty consistent, but it's about time he got a win for himself. He had been ultra consistent this time in, he'd had four starts and three places, but tonight it finally paid off," driver Jason Turnbull said.
Turnbull felt the crucial factor behind the four-year-old winning on Wednesday rather than having to settle for another minor placing was his comfortable trip.
While second elect Voodoo Lou ($4) broke as the green light was given and favourite Misdemeanor ($1.85) had to expend energy to get to the death seat before settling one out and one back, Cambo Blaster ran along in sixth.
Cambo Blaster then got a nice cart up with 400m to go before Turnbull pulled him four-wide into the final bend. Shortly after balancing in the home straight he hit the lead.
He went on to win a in 1:57.7 mile rate.
"I just had a good cart into it, they went hard early and I was out of that and didn't have any pressure early," Turnbull said.
"I was able to leave my plugs in to the top of the straight and when I pull them out he always hits the bit, so I was pretty confident a fair way from home.
"When I looked up and saw them all under pressure at the front I knew he had a bit left.
"He just had a good run, everything just worked out right when they went out hard early and they didn't get home nearly as hard. You know they did a 28.6 and a 30.5 [seconds] for that first half then did 29.7 and 29.6 home.
"He had a good run, he didn't use any petrol and was able to get home well."
