The Acting Assistant Commissioner and Western Region Commander was dismissive of the latest crime data for the local government area that said break and enters were three times the NSW average.
In the Dubbo Regional LGA, break and enters to dwellings were 3.5 times higher in the 12 months to March 2020.
The figure from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research is based on the number of recorded incidents per 100,000 people.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
During the 12 months there were 566 homes broken into, which equates to almost 11 every week. It's slightly down from the 604 recorded incidents in the 12 months prior.
"We've made massive in roads in the last few years to reduce crime. If the statistics are stable or reducing we see that as a positive," Superintendent McKenna said.
"If you compare it per 100,000 people it's always going to look worse than it is."
According to BOCSAR, break-ins to non-dwellings, such as retail premises, was also more than three times the NSW average. There were 213 incidents reported to police, down from 258 the year before.
Thefts from motor vehicles, malicious damage to property and domestic violence-related assaults were also more than three times the state average.
There were 691 of domestic violence-related assaults reported to police in the Dubbo LGA.
However, the most commonly reported incident was for malicious damage to property. During the 12 months to March, there were 1120 reported incidents.
Superintendent McKenna said the next statistics could see the crime figures drop further.
Thanks to the COVID restrictions, particularly the pubs and clubs being closed, he said the Orana Mid-Western Police District had "seen crime decrease significantly".
