Connie Greig is well established in Dubbo now but a veteran with links to her former training base in the city delivered on Monday.
Malibu Stacy returned to form in a big way at Dubbo Turf Club, coming from near last to nab victory in the Total Diesel Repairs Dubbo Benchmark 50 Handicap (1600m) in a strong finish.
The eight-year-old is closing in on 100 career starts, having made her debut back in January of 2014, but Monday's result was proof there could be more wins in the tank yet.
"She got there and it's her 90th start today and she'll hang around," Greig told Sky Thoroughbred Central after the win.
"She's the last horse I've had since I moved from Hawkesbury. She's the last one I've got left since I moved here and that's been four years."
She might be a stalwart of the stable but Malibu Stacy has always proven she's had some ability.
Results have been mixed this preparation and that resulted in her jumping a $19 chance but there had been positive signs.
The most promising had come in February when she beat home Reward Seeker, who went on to win the Orange Gold Cup for Mick Mulholland.
"I wish she was the one who went on to win [at Orange] but we'll take a win today," Greig laughed after the mare's ninth career win.
"She likes racing here, as well."
Rasit Yetimova produced a strong performance in the saddle to secure the upset win.
He settled well back early on while Ultimate Quest ($51) and Irish Shotgun ($31) set the pace and started to move clear of the pack.
Ultimate Quest was tackled by The Scotsman ($10) and Miss Matriach ($5.50) while after overcoming a couple of wayward strides on the extreme outside Malibu Stacy was starting to work her way into it.
She finished best to score by a head from Miss Matriach while The Scotsman fought on for third.
"She's been probably a little out of form but she's extremely hard to catch," Greig said.
Shwanky Doo, the $2.70 favourite, never really got into the race but Clint Lundholm had reason to cheer soon after.
Lundholm had Kahlo win the following event, the Adors Party Hire Benchmark 50 Handicap (1300m), when finishing best.
