Mission Australia is holding Mothers in Pyjamas this Mother's Day.
It encourages families to stay in their PJs to support homeless families or those doing it tough due to coronavirus.
Mission Australia area manager Megan Boshell said she wanted people to use Mother's Day as a time to reflect.
"We want people to stay home and stay safe and stay well but also to really take that time to consider people in the community who are less fortunate than us, who are far more vulnerable," Ms Boshell said.
"At a time when a lot of us are really appreciating that extra enforced time at home there are lots of people who are still experiencing homelessness and are still either sleeping rough or sleeping on the street, couch surfing, things like that."
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
While homelessness is more 'in your face' in metropolitan areas, in regional locations like Dubbo, it looks different.
"It's people who are living in unsafe accommodation, temporary accommodation, and while we may not see the same number of street sleepers it doesn't mean that rates of homelessness are any lower," Ms Boshell said.
Mission Australia has already seen an increased demand for its services, especially those seeking emergency food or accommodation.
Ms Boshell said they were constantly adapting their service to keep up with the rapidly changing COVID-19 conditions while ensuring their clients were looked after.
"For people with significant mental health issues or those who might be away from family, or Mum in particular on Mother's Day and for those people who are already isolated, this is a really scary time. We're making sure we're supporting people through that," she said.
In addition to their usual work, the organisation has been delivering activity packs and Mother's Day packs to their clients.
Ms Boshell said the mugs were perfect for a tea or coffee for mum while she stayed in her pyjamas.
To take part in Mothers in Pyjamas, or donate to the cause, head to the Mission Australia website at missionaustralia.com.au/pyjamas.
"If people make a donation to the Mission Australia, that's fantastic but we're also acknowledging that at the moment people are really doing it tough and even if it is just that people are considering those in the community and having some compassion towards that, I think that's really important," Ms Boshell said.
