Firefighters were called to a home on East Street in West Dubbo at 1.30am on Monday following reports of a vehicle on fire.
Fire and Rescue Dubbo Station Officer Chris Cusack said a Holden Captiva parked in the backyard of a home was on fire when crews arrived on scene.
"The car was fully involved when we arrived and the house was under threat," he said.
"We were unable to save the car, but we prevented the fire from spreading to the house."
Station Officer Cusack said firefighters were unable to find an ignition source for the fire and the police are investigating.

The Daily Liberal understands that the property where the fire occurred was abandoned.
