Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Wellington responded to a house fire in Pierce Street at 7.50am.
On arrival crews found a room in the house well alight. They quickly got to work to extinguish the fire and declared the building safe.
It is believed the house is occupied by tenants, but they were not at home at the time of the blaze.
"There were no persons at home of the time, so there are no injuries," Wellington FRNSW captain Mark Moroney told the Wellington Times.
"We received early warning for the fire and we were able to contain it before it spread right through the house, so it was basically confined to two rooms."
While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, Cpt Moroney said coming into the cooler nights residents are now starting to use their heaters.
"Our message is to ensure gas and electric heaters are checked by authorised people," he said.
"Make sure they are in proper working condition before being used, particularly portable heaters...."
The Wellington FRNSW captain also urged residents with wood heaters to regularly have them cleaned.
"Just be well prepared for the colder weather... prevention is better," Cpt Moroney said.
With the coronavirus health crisis more people are confined to their homes than they normally would be, so the Wellington FRNSW captain encouraged residents to be vigilant when using appliances.
"Some people are doing more cooking than they normally would so our message is to make sure that everyone has a working smoke detector in their house that is tested and ensure they have an evacuation plan," Cpt Moroney said.
He also encouraged people to check appliances when cooking, so that nothing is left unattended on stoves.
"People get distracted, especially if they're doing more things at home with more things on their mind, they might just duck away from the kitchen momentarily and that's all it takes sometimes for a fire to occur," Cpt Moroney explained.
At this point the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but NSW Police will carry out further investigation.
