This month we welcome our students, commencing and returning, back to Charles Sturt University in Dubbo, and I am pleased to see the campus thriving again after the quieter, summer period.

Student enrolments are the highest they have been in the past four years with approximately 84 on-campus students and a further 65 online students commencing studies at the campus.
After a successful orientation program for these students at the end of February, we dive head first into the academic year.
Having had such positive reviews form students and staff last year, we will continue with the three-day teaching week here on campus, with classes running Tuesday through Thursday. This condensed class schedule allows our students to engage in the work place and in the community in a more meaningful way during the course of their studies.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind readers that applications for the first round of our Community-University Partnership (CUP) Grants will be open from 9 March until 6 April 2020, with Round Two opening in July.
Up to $60,000 will be available across five categories during Round One: Art and culture; Education; Indigenous engagement; Health and wellbeing; and Sport.
Past recipients of CUP Grants in the region have used the funds for a wide variety of purposes including attending and hosting arts, cultural and sporting events, and improving student outcomes through identifying specific needs, improving student health and purchasing much needed equipment.
For more information, and to apply, visit the University's Community website at https://about.csu.edu.au/community/grants.
Charles Sturt in Dubbo recently hosted our first Exploration Series public lecture of 2020, Thinking Fish - Saving Native Fish in the Murray-Darling Basin. This sold-out event, organised in partnership with OzFish Unlimited, proves the ongoing interest of our community in the issues affecting our natural resources. The lecture is available online through the Community Events' webpage. The University will be hosting more events, including our free Exploration Series, throughout the year, so I encourage you to keep an eye on https://about.csu.edu.au/community/events for upcoming opportunities.
March also sees the start of our new graduate certificates and short courses. Newly on offer, and while studied online, each course includes a one-day workshop, which the university has committed to offering face-to-face on the Dubbo campus during this initial year.
