The council's chief executive officer Michael McMahon reports properties accessing reticulated water will be notified by letter after the work is done.
"The smart meter fitters will also be making contact when they arrive at the property to notify the resident or business owner they are there to install the meter," he said.
"If the property owner is not there a small flyer will be left notifying them."

Mr McMahon said when the $5 million rollout of smart meters was finished in the local government area, an online customer portal and app would be activated.
"Council will be providing step-by-step videos on our website, hosting pop-up stalls, printed instructions and offering helpful advice at our customer experience centres for residents and businesses who would like to use the technology to monitor their water usage," he said.
The council is yet to announce when the six-to-eight-month rollout of smart meters will begin.
Taggle Systems won the contract to install the smart meters across the Dubbo region.
