The Central Districts heat might be the main focus on Sunday but excitement is starting to build ahead of the Western Racing Association qualifier at Coonamble on March 15.
Allan Gibson is eyeing that heat with California Fox and the five-year-old gelding is set to start his preparation on Sunday after being nominated for the Benchmark 66 Showcase Handicap (1200m).
The same goes for Kody Nestor's highly-rated Sneak Preview and Fast Talking while the Dubbo trainer has also put forward Risk And Reward.
Sneak Preview is one of the early overall favourites for the Country Championships Final in the betting market.
Rodney Robb's last-start winner Festival Of Light will look to continue a strong preparation in the same Mudgee race while the Nyngan trainer has also nominated Supreme Attraction.
The Clint Lundholm-trained Sipharderson have also been nominated, making the event at Mudgee something of a preview for the Coonamble heat.
Lundholm has also nominated Conspirator, another potential Country Championships hopeful, for Saturday's $75,000 Highway Handicap (1000m) at Randwick.
Dar Lunn, Connie Greig, and Garry Lunn are just some of the other Dubbo trainers who have also nominated hopes for Sunday's meeting at Mudgee.
Final fields are released on Thursday.
