With his team leading the overall RSL-Whitney Cup competition ladder as the Dubbo cricket community heads into the break, it'd be easy for Dan Medway to brag.

In fact, not only is Macquarie sitting atop the conventional ladder, but they're also currently leading the competition in runs scored, and Medway deserves a lot of the credit for that total, given he's currently the highest scoring batsmen in the 2019/2020 season with 341 runs.
But that's not how he sees it.
"I've been pretty lucky, I think," Medway said.

"On the two-dayers I was scoring a few rubs, but the one days I haven't really been doing as well, I've stumbled through mostly, I think I'm lucky to be leading in the runs."
While that analysis broadly holds true; Medway having fallen just six runs short of a century in the first two day game of the season and smashed out 136 runs in the next before failing to go above 50 in his next six appearances, the savvy hitter has still set himself apart from the pack in an otherwise low scoring season so far.
While the opportunity to pass Medway's accumulated run total before the mid-season break has gone up in smoke for Angus Norton (312) and Tom Coady (303), Medway makes no secret of the fact that he and opening batting partner brother Ricky are looking forward to resuming with more two day games.
"The aim with the two days is to take your time and bat as well as possible, we do have quite a deep batting side, I think, we've been scraping together at least 200 in most of our games," Medway said.
"Myself and Rick, going out there, we're thinking about that brand new ball and chancing our arm a little bit to get off to a good start, because if we can do that, it allows those guys coming in at four, five and six to get in comfortable and come home strong."
"In general, that's what we've tried to do, there's been times where we've found ourselves a few wickets down for not all that many runs."
While the Medways haven't always come off the green with the highest score, one thing that has firmed over the first half of the season is Macquarie's form.
"This year we all went in thinking that we were going to give this season a big nudge," Medway said.
"We had Angus Cusack come back and Ben Strachan come in and they've added a lot to us depth-wise, but even without that happening, we made a decision to really come in and have a real crack and play to win."
"At the back end of that last season, we played some good cricket and matched up well with the top two or three sides, but by then it was too late, so this year we wanted to set the pace and start really well and keep it up throughout the year."
