Mr Hockey is a firm supporter of cold fare, and December 25 will see him indulging in some seafood.
The former cafe owner, who's lived in the city since he was six years old, has a career change planned for 2020. Here he shares some thoughts about the festive season for the Daily Liberal's Christmas Q & A.
What do you want from Santa this year?
This year for Christmas I wouldn't mind receiving a pair of work boots. I am starting a new job in the new year so new job, new boots!
What does Christmas mean to you?
Christmas for me is about family, and trying to relax, as much as you can relax on Christmas Day.
What will you be doing on Christmas Day?
My partner and I will be heading to Port Stephens this Christmas to spend it with my family.
My parents have a holiday house only a stone's throw from the water, so we will all meet and spend a couple of days there together.
We will spend the days fishing, bushwalking and playing board games.
What was your best Christmas?
I think the best Christmases are the ones you can still remember when you were a kid, getting all excited in the lead-up to Christmas Day, waking up super early and wondering what presents you were going to get.
My favourite memory would probably have to be my earliest Christmas memory, I think I was about five.
I got my first bike, it was red, so it was super fast! Santa left it in the carport under our house and I can still remember the feeling when I ran downstairs and saw it for the first time.
Do you prefer hot food or cold food on Christmas Day?
Definitely cold food, it's summer! Fresh prawns and ice cold beer are a must. Oh and ice cream, lots of ice cream.
Where would your ideal place be to spend Christmas Day?
For me, it is more important about who I spend Christmas with, rather than where.
So wherever my family is spending Christmas, whether it is with mine or my partner's family, is where I want to spend Christmas.
The Maldives wouldn't be so bad I guess.
