Dubbo real estate agent and keen fisherman Matt Hansen thinks a wet Christmas full of corny jokes would be the "best Christmas ever." What do you want from Santa this year?
I'm asking Santa to please bring about 200mm of slow, steady soaking rain over about a six week period. If he could deliver that across all the parched regions of the Murray Darling Basin, that'd be the best Christmas present ever! Burrendong would be full, the water in all the rivers refreshed and revitalized, and our community and economy thriving.
What does Christmas mean to you?
Having two young boys, Jack and Cooper aged 7 and 8, Christmas is really all about them. Seeing them so excited in the lead up to Christmas and then playing with their gifts is satisfying as a parent. Downtime with my wife Tina is also another part of Christmas that we really enjoy, as running a business sometimes we feel like ships passing in the night.
What will you be doing on Christmas Day?
Watching the kids unwrap presents, eating way too much ham, swimming in the pool and enjoying a few cold beers. No doubt there will be no shortage of corny bon-bon jokes, followed by a traditional food coma kick back on the lounge. Plenty of phone calls to friends and family all over the country and overseas.
What was your best Christmas?
I have great memories of some epic cricket matches on the lawn with all our relatives and cousins. Setting up a 50-metre strip of plastic and giving it a thorough dousing with detergent to make a pearla of a water slide. That sure was a fun Christmas as a child!
Do you prefer hot food or cold food on Christmas Day?
No preference on this one. If it's been hot, chances are I will eat it cold later anyway. I'm not fussy. I must admit I am a huge ham fan and will eat ham sandwiches and toasties with tomato and cheese until it's all gone.
Where would your ideal place be to spend Christmas Day?
As long as my wife and kids are there, we will have fun anywhere, but travelling to the beach and exploring new places is always special.
