Nelson and his team do battle in a top of the table clash against Macquarie on Friday night in the McDonald's Megahit.
After years of struggle in the short form, Nelson said the performances of key batsmen is the main reason why his side is undefeated after victories over Souths and Newtown to start the 2019/20 campaign.
"Our top-order has stood up so far and been really consistent which is something we haven't had in the last few years," he said.
"But this year we have scored over 180 every game and only lost five wickets in two games."
With Brock Larance away representing the ACT/NSW Country under 19s at the national championships Nelson said a few youngsters can step up in the all rounders absence.
"He (Larance) has done well for us so far, he hasn't really bowled much in the Twenty20s but we have Paddy (Nelson) and Yogi Chawla who comes back into the side who can more then cover him," he said.
"And I think Tom Coady may open with me, so I will be looking forward to him hopefully standing up and making some runs."
So far this Megahit season Macquarie have had several players from the Parkes area feature in their side and Nelson isn't sure of what to expect from their opponents.

"They have a lot of guys from out of town who come to play who we haven't really seen before and a few of the older guys like 'Greeny' [Jason Green] don't play so we will just what happens." he said
Even without Green and other regulars Macquarie will still have the veteran presence of brothers Joe and Ed Haylock as well former CYMS enforcer Ben Strachan, who made the early season switch across to join the Blues.
Strachan will be against his brother Lachie for the second time this year after Macquarie defeating CYMS in the RSL-Whitney Cup earlier this season.
Nelson was also proud of the juniors who have come through the CYMS teams together and now are making strides in local higher grade cricket.
"Harry McPherson, Campbell Watts. Paddy (Nelson) and Tom (Coady) have all come through together from under 10s to now play under 16s and first grade which is remarkable," he said.
"They are still a work in progress in a way with their best cricket still ahead of them but it's great to see them grow."
Nelson praised the work done behind the scenes to allow the juniors to continue to develop through the grades in Dubbo and CYMS specifically.
"The most exciting part is our best cricket is still yet to come." he added
Play will begin at 6:30pm at No. 1 Oval.
