Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott said the additional investment would benefit the local State Emergency Service (SES) and Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) unit at their joint facility in Dubbo.
"As I travel across the state, I'm always humbled by the great number of volunteers who are willing to put themselves in harm's way to protect their communities when called on," Mr Elliott said.
"It is important we give back to them," he said.
Mr Elliott was one of several NSW government minister's who visited Dubbo on Tuesday to announce funding for local organisations and initiatives.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders joined Mr Elliott to also announce $2 million will be spent on enhancing aviation options at Dubbo Airport for the Rural Fire Service's (RFS) air fleet.
The funding will allow the airport to better accommodate large air tankers and will also provide for the installation of a bore to reduce the burden on the town's water supply during operations.
Mr Elliott said the government was also spending up big on recruiting emergency services volunteers and helping to develop their leadership skills.
NSW Community Resilience Innovation Programs (CRIP) are receiving $1.4 million and the Emergency Volunteer Support Scheme (EVSS) is getting $630,000.
The Dubbo and Barwon electorates will benefit from $100,000 CRIP funding, which will go towards an initiative to develop effective leaders amongst local volunteers.
The EVSS funding will promote volunteer agencies to boost the number of volunteers and develop their practical skills.
Mr Saunders said communities come together during a time of natural disaster and it was vital they received the best support possible.
"This government will always be there to assist volunteers and this announcement is another example of that," he said.
