McHappy Day was held nationwide on Saturday. Both ladies were McHappy Day ambassadors, raising awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Ms Holmes said after meeting families like the Crofts, the trip would hold a special place in her heart.
"It's a reminder that there's always people you can look out for and help and care about," she said.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Molly has made a great impression on the star.
"She is so beautiful and she said she didn't realise how loved she was before she went through this experience so maybe that's why she went through it," Ms Holmes said.
"She's gone on to raise a lot of money in her hometown and for other kids. It's really quite beautiful.
"She's one of a few families I've met and I've just been so touched by their stories and what I've come out of it learning."
Molly said she was in "shock" when she first met Ms Holmes and shared her experience.
The 13-year-old encouraged everyone to support Ronald McDonald House.
"We're still known as the family that walked off the street and asked for a bed and Ronald McDonald House has been part of our family ever since," she said.
