Dalton McNeil Medcalf, 20, drove a silver Holden Colorado in an easterly direction when he was stopped by police on Cobbora Road at 1.08am on August 17.
According to a statement of agreed facts presented in court, the Dubbo man struggled to turn the music down when police stopped to speak with him.
"I'm over, I know that," he told police.
After his breath was tested a reading of 0.170 came back. Medcalf told police he consumed 12 alcoholic beverages and three lamb and gravy sandwiches between 6pm and 12.30am.
In Dubbo Local Court last week Magistrate Gary Wilson said Medcalf made a "stupid decision" and noted the offender's previously good driving record, participation in a traffic offender program and guilty plea.
Medcalf was disqualified from driving for six months and placed on two-year alcohol interlock program he will have to comply with at a cost of thousands of dollars.
