Organisers of the Dubbo Premier League promised bigger and broader competition this year

Organiser Edwin Jacob says the Twenty20 Tournament, played across two weekends at the end of October and start of November, has broadened appeal in the lead up to the second year.

"Last year what we did was primarily multicultural; we had eight teams form the Indian subcontinent with players from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and then teams from Sydney and West Wyalong," Jacob said.

"This year we've added a team that comes from Dubbo; Newtown, so they will be playing this year as well, so the idea is to create a mesh-work and introduce people from our community and the local community, using cricket as the medium."

Last year the competition was won by Anoop A K and his team, the Dubbo Rhinos with only one wicket to go against the Dubbo Royal Challengers, both teams are expected to be participating again and are anticipating a much harder draw.

"Last year we had a really good tournament, but this year the competition will be much tougher with Newtown's involvement and the teams coming from Sydney," A K said.

The inaugural 2018 event was played with a hardened tennis ball that's customary in Indian under-lights cricket, but this year that will be abandoned for a more traditional six-stitcher.

"Last year we played with the softer ball, that doesn't behave like a stitch ball, but this year it's a proper, regulation cricket ball, so the ball will be a little bit tougher this year," A K said.

"We really want to bring everyone together and have a good time across the four days."

While the central idea behind the competition is based around being inclusive and fostering community bonds, a goal that has seen the 2018 champions the Dubbo Rhinos travel to take on other teams on their home turf in cross-state competitions in the lead-up, the competition's prize money earnings will return for the best teams.

$1000 will be given to the overall tournament champions thanks to sponsors Brett Harvey Constructions, Ray White and Mr Roofer, while second place finishers will take home $500 for their efforts.

Prizes will also be available for each Man of the Match, and other accolades such as best bowler and batsman.

The competition will return on Saturday, October 26 at South Dubbo Oval when the Dubbo Markhors take on the Orana Bangle Tigers in a first round clash and then continue when the newly added Newtown Tigers take on last year's runners up the Dubbo Royal Challengers on Sunday, October 27.
