The boy was at a Brewarinna school about 10am on Monday when he allegedly had a confrontation with another student.
Police allege the boy pulled out a hunting knife and damaged the tyres of a pushbike.
The school was placed into lockdown and the teen left the institution.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
Police located the boy at the corner of Bathurst and Sandon streets in possession of the knife.
He was taken to Brewarinna Police Station and charged with being armed and intending to commit an indictable offence, wielding a knife in a public place and intimidating a police officer.
Police said the boy was granted strict conditional bail.
