According to seventeen-year-old Lucy Gleeson who was one among the many petitioners it was "extremely important" they had their say considering "it's their future".
"We're here today in support of those in Sydney and all around Australia who are protesting today before the UN conference about climate change, so we're hoping ScoMo or any of the politicians notice that this is a huge thing that we are passionate about and things need to change," Lucy said.
"The three aims of our protest today are: we want no new coal or gas projects, one hundred per cent renewable energy generated exports by 2030 and fund transition and job creation for all fossil fuel workers and communities."
The protesters had significant backlash from many passing community members but that didn't stop the driving force from marching down towards the rotunda on Macquarie Street where they continued their speeches and chants.
Student Harrison Kater and his friends led the pack up around the block before they eventually returned to Victoria Park. His reason behind petitioning hit closer to home as he hopes to catch the attention of our local council.
"Dubbo is mostly affected by climate change," Harrison said.
"If we don't do something then we're kind of screwed, we're already predicted to run out of water by November. [Mayor] Ben Shields' response to that was 'don't worry, by the time the dams empty we will have new bores, everything will be fine', rather than actually doing anything to prevent the issue.
"The truth is we're running out of options and we really need to start doing something now because climate change isn't an issue in our future anymore, it's an issue now."
