This year's resurrection of The People's Choice Central West Rugby Union Team Of The Year continues with the halfbacks, and the snipey group of nominees the region's experts have put up will be tough to split.
There's a player-of-the-year, a Super W star and an absolute stalwart among them, have your say by voting for one of the nominees or adding your own selection.
1 EM McDONALD (Orange Emus)
The youngster, who earned a Super W gig with the ACT Brumbies this year, has fast-become the Westfund Ferguson Cup's premier halfback.
A Central West and NSW Country rep too, she was among Emus' best week-to-week in 2019 and often looked a class above the competition... which her Super W berth and the fact she was in the MVP mix backs up.
She has an impressive skillset and is a sharpshooter from the tee, but it's probably her general kicking game that really sets her apart.
2 BRENDAN McGRATH (Boorowa Goldies)
It was a massive season for the Goldies being their 50th anniversary year, which also marked their return to Central West Rugby Union's Oilsplus Cup South-West Division, and McGrath rose to the occasion.
After a huge showing in 2019 he took out the competition's player-of-the-year award against some seriously stiff competition, and then claimed the club's best and fairest gong as well.
The Goldies earned the huge achievement of making the finals in their return to the region, but without McGrath at the base of the ruck you can probably wager that wouldn't have happened.
3 TOM NELL (Orange City Lions)
We've mentioned it before with the Lions' other nominees so far, but it was a seriously tough season for Orange City, going winless through the Blowes Clothing Cup.
They showed plenty of improvement though and took massive strides off the field in terms of culture and commitment, and Nell was one of the players at the heart of that.
A stalwart of the club who marked his 100th top grade appearance in July, 2019 was probably his best season on the field too despite his side's results. Plays above his weight every week, and remains among the region's elite halfbacks.
5 SHAHID KHALFAN (Harden Red Devils)
Had a huge year, by anyone's standards.
Came into the Central West fold in the pre-season tour of New Zealand, and promptly won player-of-the-tournament in the Blue Bulls' country championship win before earning a Cockatoos gig as well.
He did all that from halfback, which is why we've included him among the No.9s, because he shifted across Harden's backline all year. He played five-eighth as well, before finishing the season at fullback.
5 JONO SHARKEY (Narromine Gorillas)
Five-eighth George Hancock was often considered the Gorillas' best, but he can't shine without the work his halfback does inside him and Sharkey was once again superb, and among the competition's best.
Like all the best halfbacks Sharkey posed a huge threat from the base of the ruck and that held defensive lines up, creating space and time for Hancock and as a result even more room to move for the Gorillas' wider men.
Wouldn't look out of place at the next level either.
