Some employees have expressed their anger with Essential Energy over the death to the Daily Liberal.
ETU NSW and ACT Secretary Justin Page said the worker from the Narromine depot passed away in tragic circumstances.
"On behalf of everyone at the union, I extend my sincere condolences to our member's family, friends and workmates," he said.
"We will provide whatever practical and personal support we can to assist the family as they deal with this devastating loss and the inevitable emotional hardship.
"I know this tragic event has devastated our members across the company."
Mr Page urged Essential Energy staff to "keep an eye out and support each other over the difficult coming days."
"At this stage, we have limited information on the circumstances of our member's passing," he said.
"We know that this (last week) was a particularly painful and tough time for Essential Energy workers as the company was attempting to rush through job cuts."
An Essential Energy spokesperson said the employee's family and workmates had been offered access to its employee assistance program.
"Essential Energy is deeply saddened by the news that one of our colleagues has passed away and our thoughts are with family, friends and workmates, " the spokesperson said.
"Out of respect for the employee's family and colleagues, we will not be commenting further at this time."

But some Essential Energy workers have questioned the sincerity of the company's words.
"Job losses are one of the many issues we face at present, and many of us are at breaking point and frustrated with what was once a reputable company," one employee said. "A man has died and left a family and friends behind, something that was preventable."
