Fifty teams from across the region went head-to-head in the rugby union sevens competition.
But it was the Dubbo schools who were victorious. Across both the boys' and girls' competitions, Dubbo won in the 13s, 15s and 17s.
The teams from St John's College proved their skills. They won the boys 13s and 15s, as well as the girls 13s and 17s.
Dubbo College Senior Campus dominated in the boys 17s and Macquarie Anglican Grammar School took out the girls 17s.
NSW Rugby Far West's country development manager Gus McDonald said the teams were up against some strong competition. However, he said schools like St John's and Macquarie had invested a lot of time into building the rugby, especially for the girls.
The teams will go on to fight for the NSW title in Tuggerah when they go up against the other zone finalists.
The Senior Schools Sevens competition helps promote rugby among the students.
McDonald said each year it was held, the number of teams grew.
"We've seen the amount of teams double from last year so it's a massive promotion for us and shows how good the game is," he said.
"This sparks an interest in rugby, especially with sevens rugby, that grows into a love of the sport."
One of the standouts of the day were the girls' teams.
"It's the fastest growing female sport in the world. A lot of the girls are new and you can see how quick they pick up the sport," McDonald said.
"They love the space and they love the contact. They can pick it up and run with it with the simplicity of rugby sevens."
For many teams, it was their first time in the competition.
"The competition this year has seen some good skills and it has been hard, but it's good to see rugby played and enjoyed by new players who are picking up the basic skills," McDonald said.
