While on his way to work 24-year-old Alex Knight is believed to have collided with a fence on Cobbora Road near Myall Street at about 5am Saturday.
He had a bit of a tough upbringing but he was an integral part of my team and we became good mates.
- Kody Nestor.
He worked in Dubbo and pursued his passion for horses with racing identity Kody Nestor.
Alex's daughter and son lived in Coonabarabran with their mother Juenayaha Chatfield.
Her aunty Sonia Chatfield said she felt devastated and "very hurt for the kids sake that he's not going to be around for them".
"He was a good father, he chased work for his family," Sonia said.
"In Coonabarabran he started his own business car detailing, just for himself to get some money towards the household.
"He did some lawn mowing around town - anything that brought money in for the family, he did."
Sonia said the impact of Alex's death was already being felt, especially by his five-year-old daughter.
"She said that she misses her dad so she does understand he is gone," Sonia told the Daily Liberal.
Alex's boss Kody Nestor said he had a unique ability to connect with horses.
"He was a big part of my team and he absolutely loved the horses, he took pride in them," Kody said.
"He was a good kid, he had a bit of a tough upbringing but he was an integral part of my team and we became good mates."
At the time of his death Alex was living in Dubbo with Joy and Ron Murray, who cared for him as foster parents when he was growing up.
"I'm still finding it hard to believe," Ron said.
"Alex would go out of his way to help anyone, he was that type of person.
"He had a lot of friends. That's the sort of person he was, people just liked him, they loved him."
Michelle Saunders was another foster parent who cared for Alex and she remembered him as a talented rugby league player who loved rapping.
"He was honest, he was a rascal but he was just such a likeable kid," she said.
"He wanted to be an amazing role model for his kids. That was his main reason for living."
Alex's father Jason Knight said his son lived life to the fullest.
"He was always laughing and joking, he was just a happy kid," he said.
Warrumbungle Shire Councillor Kodi Brady previously employed Alex and said he organised a Facebook fundraiser to support the children in the wake of their father's death.
"He was so devoted to his kids, everything was about his kids," Cr Brady recalled.
A police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is now underway.
Alex's funeral details are yet to be arranged.
