Dubbo Regional Council is sealing it between Barbigal and Gundong streets under the Village Street Sealing Program.
Dubbo Regional mayor Ben Shields said the work would reduce dust levels and provide better conditions for driving.
It is expected to be completed within four to six weeks, weather permitting.

Cr Shields said the project was a "great result for a community that is growing rapidly".
"Wongarbon is a progressive village and that is why they need access to a high level of amenities including sealed roads," he said.
"I know residents have been excited about the prospect of this work being completed so I am pleased council is in the process of delivering. "
The mayor said the Village Street Sealing Program, which has focused on improving roads in Eumungerie, Brocklehurst, Ballimore and Wongarbon, was in its fourth year.
