Minister for Regional Youth Bronnie Taylor has told of a "fantastic response" to the call for applications.
"..but we would love to hear more from younger teenagers as well as youth in western NSW to ensure an even representation that accurately represents the community," she said.
"This will become the platform for young people in regional NSW to champion local causes, represent friends, classmates and family, and play a part in making decisions that will help to drive change in their regional towns."
Applicants must be aged between 12 and 24 years and live outside Greater Sydney and the local government areas of Newcastle and Wollongong.
Taskforce members will receive a sitting fee and their flights and accommodation expenses will be covered.
The taskforce is expected to meet about four times a year, twice in person and twice through Skype.
